Bury Outstanding - our education record is one of the best in the country.

Schools and colleges in Bury are consistently amongst the best in the country. Bury is home to two OFSTED rated 'Outstanding' colleges - Bury College and Holy Cross College - which have over a thousand students each year who go on to study at universities of international and national repute.


As well as offering opportunities for school leavers, the two colleges also work with local businesses to offer training and support to staff. Bury College's Business Solutions was established in 2000 as the commercial training arm of the College. Business Solutions aims to help improve the skills of local employees, increase local businesses performance and provide training opportunities. The college plays a key role in providing services for the Government's Train to Gain agenda.

Holy Cross is a Roman Catholic Sixth Form college providing a range of GCSE, A-Level and other post 16 courses.

The college is based on one site to the south of Bury town centre and this creates a real community atmosphere amongst students.

OFSTED Inspectors who visited the college noted 'achievements and standards are outstanding'. The college A-Level success rate has placed the college in the top 10% in the country.

The college offers students the opportunity to study for degrees at their university centre. The college has forged strong links with Edge Hill, Liverpool Hope and Leeds Metropolitan Universities. All the courses are delivered at the campus in Bury and then accredited by one of the universities. This provides a great opportunity for students who wish to study without moving away or who might be studying on a part time basis.

Operating out of £26 million Market Street campus Bury College is widely recognised as one of England's top ten colleges.

It offers a range of high quality academic and vocational programmes. across a wide range of subjects. In 2007, Ofsted Inspectors officially labelled Bury College as 'Outstanding' for it's 'very high success for learners aged 16-18'.

The college's results are consistently above the national average and for 2008 the college's pass rate was an outstanding 99% of students aged 16-19 studying at least 2 A-Levels.

Every year upwards of 500 students progress to University or Higher Education at leading institutions, including Oxbridge.
